Purchasing a cell phone (Bestbuy vs Amazon)
At first instinct, you might purchase your new cell phone at Amazon because you have prime shipping, or BestBuy because you want it right now. However, there are differences between these two stores that you may have not thought about, ranging from their policies, restocking fees, return policies and potential cash back incentives. Before purchasing, you should know the differences between purchasing your device through Bestbuy.com and Amazon.com. Below we will go through the differences we can make out.
Bestbuy: Best buy has a 14 day return policy that applies to new, clearance, open-box, refurbished and pre-owned products. There is a $45.00 restocking fee if the product is returned unless the purchase and return are made in AL, CO, HI, IA, MS, OH, OK, SC or where prohibited by law.
Amazon: We chatted with Amazon and they told us it was 30 days with no restocking fee.
Bestbuy: The Citi® Dividend Card has 5% cash back between September 2019 to December 2019. You can activate the offer here
Bestbuy: Some American Express holders are eligible for $30.00 statement credit after spending $300.00 at Bestbuy through now and December 31st. You can try to add the offer to your card through the American Express website or visit amexoffers.com
Amazon: The Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card can earn you up to 5% in rewards.
Amazon seems to have the better return policy and for that reason we would buy from Amazon.com, although, if you have a Citi Dividend or American Express card and not an Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card with Amazon Prime, Bestbuy could be the more frugal pick when deciding on where to make your purchase.
